Privacy

Your phone number. You sign in with it; there is no password. If you tick the box for texts, we also use it to send updates about your jobs.

Your name, email and home address. We need them to arrange work at your home and to send receipts and updates. We store your address with its map coordinates, which we use to find service providers near enough to come.

Your location, if you choose. If you tap "Use my location" when booking, your device shares its location and we store it as the job location.

What you tell us about a job. The description, your answers to our questions, the address and any photographs you add.

Messages between you and your service provider, which are sent in the app.

Payment information. Card payments are handled by Stripe. We receive a reference to your Stripe customer record and the status of each payment, but not your full card number.

Service providers also give us their business name, the services they offer, how far they travel, photographs of their work, and, for card payments, the information Stripe needs to set up their payout account, including identity checks carried out by Stripe.

Reviews you write about a job.

Your consent decisions, with the time, the screen, the wording shown, your device's browser information and IP address.

Technical information. Error reports from the app, and, only if you choose "Accept all" on our cookie notice, how the app is used (see Cookies below).

To create and run your account; to arrange, carry out and support your jobs; to take and pass on payments; to send the messages and notifications you have agreed to; to keep Homaru safe and prevent fraud and misuse; to resolve problems and disputes; to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations; and, if you agree, to understand how the app is used so we can improve it.

Service providers we may offer your job to see the job description, your answers, the photographs and the job address, so they can decide whether to take it.

Your assigned service provider also sees your first name. Your phone number and email are not shown to service providers; you talk through in-app messages.

Customers see a service provider's business name, profile, photographs of their work and published reviews.

Other users see published reviews, without the reviewer's name.

Our staff can see jobs, messages and accounts, because arranging the work and resolving problems is the service. Staff access to make changes is recorded.

Service providers that help us run Homaru, who process information only on our instructions: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage); Vercel (hosting); Twilio (sign-in codes and text messages); Resend (email); Stripe (card payments and service provider payouts); Google (address search and maps, and usage measurement if you accept it); and your browser's push notification service (notifications on your device).

Others, only when necessary: if the law requires it, to protect the rights, safety or property of anyone, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of our business, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

You consent to text messages from Homaru by checking the SMS consent box when you enter your mobile number. The messages we send are listed in our Text Message Policy. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to opt out, and we will send one final message confirming you are unsubscribed. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the categories of sharing described in this policy exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent. This information will not be shared with any third parties, excluding aggregators and providers of the text message services.

We record every consent decision, given or withdrawn, with the time and the wording shown.

Photographs are stored privately, not at a public web address. They are shown through short-lived links only to people entitled to see them: you, the service providers who may take or have taken your job, and our staff. A service provider's photographs of their own work are shown to customers on their profile once the service provider is approved.

We use cookies and your browser's storage to keep you signed in, remember your choice on our cookie notice and your language, and remember settings on your device such as the theme and app lock. If you choose "Accept all", we also use Google Analytics to measure how the app is used, with IP addresses anonymized and advertising features turned off. If you choose "Essential only", Google Analytics is not loaded. You can change this at any time in your account.

We keep your account information while your account is open. When you close your account, we remove your name, email, address, map coordinates and profile photograph. We keep your phone number, jobs, messages, payment and consent records, because we need them to answer questions and disputes about past jobs and to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations. We keep job and payment records for 7 years after the job, and consent records for 5 years after your account closes, and then delete or anonymize them.

You can ask us to confirm whether we process your personal information, and to give you a copy, correct it, or delete it, by emailing support@behomaru.com from the email on your account or contacting us from the phone number on your account. We will verify your request and answer within 45 days. Some information may be kept where the law requires or allows, as described above.

If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision with "Appeal" in the subject. We will answer the appeal within 60 days. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can contact the Texas Attorney General at texasattorneygeneral.gov.

You can turn texts, push notifications and usage measurement on or off at any time under Account → Notifications and privacy.

We protect your information with access controls, encryption in transit, private storage for photographs, and sign-in checks for our staff. No system is completely secure; if a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.

Homaru is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

We will post any update here with a new version number and effective date, and tell you by email or in the app before a material update takes effect.
